Can I Go From Clyndomicin to Penacillin?

My Story: Was on Pen around Dec 4th (had root canal), 4 days after stopping pain returned, went on Amox, 4 days after stopping pain returned, another round of Amox to continue but by day 5 symptoms were still there so DDS put me on Clyndomicin. The reason for this is because at first she was certain that I had a lingering infection from the root canal that wasn't responding to the Penacillin, or the Amox. Now we know it is a totally different tooth, probably exposed nerve, causing radiating pain, and infection. Problem is that she is out of town until January 21. My DDS is the only licensed Endo in this town as well. I will need a root canal so I have to wait for her and should stay on antibiotics to prevent infection from spreading. I do however go on Thurs Jan 10 to see her fill in DDS, but not sure what, if anything she can do. Problm now: Been extra nervous since takn Clyndo. Don't like that at all. Can I go back to Penacillin? (never bothered me). Any professional advice? Thx.

You probably could but you should get medical approval fryom a liscensed DDS or MD. One would need to know your other meds you are taking as well. Stick to the Clyn until you run out
Reply:Only the prescribing doctor can authorize change of a prescription. If the medication is making you sick or not working, you need to contact that doctor for advice. Even though your doctor is out of town her office should have a system in place to handle emergencies. Call the office leave a message on the answering system or call the emergency number left on the message. The doctor will be contacted and should get back with you shortly, or she will have someone (another doctor) that will cover for her and that doctor will call you. A prescription issue can usually be handled over the phone. The doctor can call in an order for you to a local pharmacy, or authorize that you can return to left over prescription previously prescribed.

Hope this helps.
