"Unless a sign posted at that intersection prohibits doing so, it is permissible to
make a “left turn on red” from the left lane of a one-way street onto a one-way
street on which the traffic moves toward the driver’s left."

Drivers Ed question: Book says its allowed but Drivers Dont Agree...HELP?!?
I'm not sure exactly what your question is, but those that don't agree aren't aware of the law. Obviously it's legal in your state, and it is in mine also. It's also permissible (in Michigan) to complete a u-turn on red on a divided highway, since the traffic is moving in one direction.
Drivers aren't required to make the turn if they don't want to, however. Nor do they have to make a right on red. Many people are more comfortable waiting for the green light, and there's no law against it. However, it's liable to draw some horn honking.
Reply:I've never come across that situation but it seems like it should be OK. because you're not cutting across traffic and going into the nearest lane it seems pretty safe, just like a right hand turn on red. I'd trust the handbook and not the word of other drivers.
Reply:It's the same thing as if you pulled up to a red light and wanted to turn right. You can turn right if traffic is clear unless there is a "NO Right on Red" sign.
Reply:as far as i know that is legal in that situation. but not in all states
Reply:If it is a one way going onto another one way, going left, yes. It is permissible as long as there is no sign saying no.
Reply:Yes it is permissible without any signs.
