What degrees to dentist mostly have?

Whats the difference from a DDS and a DMD, and do most dentists stop there or do they attain a specialty? Is Stopping with your DDS, like a med school grad without residency?

What degrees to dentist mostly have?
The DDS (doctor of dental surgery) and the DMD (doctor of dental medicine) degree are the same degree with a different name. Some dental schools just moved to awarding the DMD (my guess is that it is because it is more similar to the MD degree.
